What is Philosophy of design?

Here, 'Philosophy of design' is understood as the study of ideologies, opinions, beliefs, assumptions in and about design. Revealing and questioning the current understanding of design that is taking shape in the form. Based on the origin of the word, 'Philosophy' literally means 'love of wisdom'. Philosophy of design is therefore the 'love of wisdom in design'.

What is the intention of Philosophy of design?

Philosophy of design intents to broaden the understanding of the discipline. To gain a deeper understanding and thereby enhancing the quality and raising to a professional and respectable discipline. Compared to other artistic disciplines design is not very deeply investigated, even though it plays such a big role in our western civilization. My vision is a Philosophy of design course in every design university.

Who is Anna Craemer?

I am a designer and writer and contextual coach, driven by the intention to gain a deeper understanding of design. I began my research during my master's studies at Central Saint Martins in London, and am now continuing this enquiry while living and working in Berlin, Germany.

What typfaces are used here?

The headlines are set in LL Brown, a contemporary sans serif typeface released in 2008, designed by Swiss typeface designer Auréle Sack. The contemporary geometric shape suits the contemporary content and bears a personal connection to me and my project. It was released during my years in London, when I started the research and is now the identity font of the Haus der Kunst in Munich, where I live now. The Typface used for the running text is Sabon. A serif typeface based on the old typface Gramond, which was designed with the intention of making the act of reading more natrual.
